“Scientific Oversight Committee”
The Scientific Oversight Committee (SOC) is dedicated to advancing the scientic rigor of pediatric ECMO research, ensuring meticulous evaluation processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the research community.
SOC manuscript review
Each manuscript will be reviewed by two SOC members as well as the SOC chair. We strive to pair a senior reviewer with a junior reviewer for each manuscript, fostering the development of our SOC members’ expertise and building their reviewer skills. As a side note, authors now must also submit their manuscripts to PALISI’s scientic committee for
additional evaluation.
Surveys
There is a formalised review process for surveys wishing to access the PediECMO membership.
- This includes a thorough review of the survey protocol, the survey itself, and the draft invitation, all of which must adhere to the CROSS checklist (consensus-based checklist for reporting survey studies).
- The protocol and survey are reviewed by two SOC members, who then make recommendations to the SOC chair for a final determination.
- This process has a turnaround time of 2-3 weeks. Once approved, the survey is sent out by PediECMO leadership. This year, the SOC reviewed two surveys and provided detailed feedback to the primary investigator.
Grant Applications
- The research project is encouraged to be presented at previous PediECMO meeting.
- The researcher will submit the specific aims, research strategy, and a draft letter of support.
- The SOC chair and two SOC members will review the proposal using the NIH template.
- The SOC will make recommendations to the Executive Committee for a final decision (support as is, pending changes, decline to support).
- The SOC chair will provide the researcher with the anonymized reviews and the Executive Committee’s decision.
- Research updates are expected to be presented at following PediECMO meetings (at least once a year).
- PediECMO is also expecting to review the future manuscript and be a co-author.
- Turn-around time: 3-4 weeks
PediECMO presentations
To manage the high volume of potential presentations at PediECMO meetings, the SOC has also developed a scoring system to prioritize submissions, ensuring that the most critical and impactful research is presented.
